Join Earthchild Sarah every week to learn about the foundations that good art is built on.
Watercolor is the hardest paint medium to master. In May we explore the intricacies and unique characteristics of this cruel but magical medium. We will talk about what type of brushes, paper and paints to use and which ones not to use. We will also cover basic techniques and fundamental principles in the first lesson. The suggested projects will be natural objects. Students can paint landscapes, clouds, plants, rocks or whatever their imagination can conceive. More advanced students may choose a different theme.
This is not a follow the leader or paint by numbers art class! Complete beginners to intermediate artists can come get expert guidance from someone who has been in the arts for nearly four decades. We cover the fundamentals of art with carefully selected topics to allow students to master one element at a time. The building blocks of all good art are the same: composition, color, harmony, balance, focus, proportions, tone, edge, space, perspective, concept, etc. Learn how to improve your technique in acrylics, pastels, watercolor, graphite and charcoal and more by going back to the basics. You can work on the suggested projects and exercises or bring in your art for advice and guidance on how to improve. Questions are welcome, community is encouraged. Materials are provided.
If you register and are unable to make it, please notify the library at least 48 hours in advance to be considerate of those on the wait list. The session runs for the whole month and registering for the first one will automatically register you for the rest of the month. The first lesson is when most of the explanation occurs, if you cannot make the first lesson, please consider registering for a different month as a courtesy to other students. This class is limited to adults 18+ only. If you would like information on teen art classes please contact the library.
