The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride
In 1972, as construction workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, dig a foundation, they unexpectedly uncover a skeleton in a well, revealing hidden secrets of the Chicken Hill neighborhood. This area, historically home to both Jewish and African American families, showcases the lives of Moshe and Chona Ludlow. Moshe is known for integrating his theater, while Chona runs a beloved grocery store. Together with Nate Timblin, a respected Black janitor and community leader, they unite to protect a deaf boy from institutionalization.
