Weaving With Reclaimed & Recycled Materials
Tuesday, June 09
5:30pm - 7:30pm
Learn to weave on a hand loom using reclaimed materials - old t-shirts, recycled yarn, salvaged fabric. No experience needed. Registration covers all 3 weeks.
Weaving is one of humanity's oldest technologies — and one of its most radical acts of making something from nothing. In this 3-week series we'll explore the basics of loom weaving while working exclusively with reclaimed and recycled materials: old t-shirts cut into strips, unraveled sweaters, salvaged yarn and fabric scraps.
We'll talk about why people wove, how fabric production shaped American history, and whose hands did that work — from Indigenous textile traditions to immigrant mill workers to the women who clothed their families through seasons of scarcity. You'll leave with a finished woven piece and a new understanding of material as history.
All materials provided. Register once for all 3 weeks. You must be able to attend the first week.
